Congressional Gold Medal

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award given by the United States Congress to an individual of any nationality who performs an outstanding deed or act of service to the security, prosperity, and national interest of the United States. This award has been bestowed since 1776 when it was given by the Second Continental Congress to General George Washington. Some winners are pictured here.
