Jill McManigal is a former elementary school teacher and playwright of numerous children's musicals who co-founded Kids For Peace in 2006 to help kids to create peace in their families, schools, communities and world. Starting out as a local meeting in her home, under her leadership, Kids For Peace has grown to an international nonprofit organization with more than 100 chapters on six continents. The organization's mission is "to cultivate every child's innate ability to foster peace through cross-cultural experiences and hands-on arts, service and environmental projects." In 2008, Kids For Peace launched The Great Kindness Challenge, an annual event that takes place on the second Saturday in August. Young people of all ages are urged to perform as many acts of kindness as possible, and to spread the message of the campaign to as many friends as possible: "The more people we involve, the faster we move towards creating a world filled with love and peace."
