Joan Beverly Kroc was the third wife of McDonald's CEO Ray Kroc and a philanthropist who devoted herself to numerous causes including nuclear disarmament, the homeless, drug addiction, animal rights and peace. She was the founder of the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego, a leading 'peace think tank' , and the University of Notre Dame’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, one of America's largest 'peace' institutions.
